A brief summary of our 2021 YLA programme

Project Langit (YLA 2021 Winning Team)

ProjectLangit is a digital marketing social enterprise aimed at empowering B40 entrepreneurs to break free from poverty through digitalisation of their businesses.

Believing that B40 entrepreneurs are the champions of the nation, ProjectLangit reinvests 100% of their revenue to help aspiring B40 entrepreneurs and to uproot poverty in Malaysia. Since its inception, ProjectLangit has reached more than 300 followers and a exceeded sales of RM3,800 via its omni-channel platforms and collaboration with more than five entrepreneurs and university groups.

The YLA 2021 group was greatly inspired by some of the most influential leaders in Malaysia to whom they are grateful for their support.

The YLA 2021 Team

YLA Malaysia is organised and run by colleagues McKinsey & Company's Kuala Lumpur office. The 2021 team is a group of passionate individuals who are excited to meet you and make the programme a fulfilling experience!

Haswiny graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations. Prior to McKinsey, she’s worked across industries helping organizations build successful teams from the ground up . Outside of work, she is an aspiring plant mom who enjoys “vegetarianizing” recipes and putting together IKEA furniture.

Haswiny

Opal graduated from the University of Sydney with a combined BCom/LLB degree (Hons.). Prior to re-joining McKinsey, Opal spent 6 years in SE Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, co-founding and managing multiple ventures (e.g., fashion e-commerce, food & grocery delivery, specialty coffee concept). He is passionate about digital & technology, including its application in achieving social outcomes. Opal enjoys spending time with his family, reading and watching shows.

Ming Huey graduated from Imperial College London with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to joining McKinsey, she was a project consultant at a non-profit, working on a system to monitor LGBT+ rights abuses across the world. She enjoys roasting meats and holds a private pilot’s license in Europe. One of her retirement dreams is to open a roasted pork stall.

Lily graduated from Taylor’s University with a degree in journalism from the University of South Australia. Prior to joining McKinsey, Lily worked as a lifestyle journalist with a luxury publication, specializing in feature stories and personality profiles. She is passionate about storytelling, especially ones that inform, inspire and uplift. She enjoys K-Pop (particularly BTS), video games, reading, indoor cycling and taking long walks in nature.

Joy studied math and computer science at Princeton, but truthfully spent more of her college days cooking, taking art and education classes and dancing poorly. In her free time, she enjoys food-related activities with friends and family.

Originally from the Netherlands, Jules moved to South East Asia over 6 years ago. Prior to joining McKinsey & Company, Jules worked across commercial, logistics and product functions at Lazada Group, building the early stages of e-commerce in the region. In his spare time, Jules enjoys playing field hockey and tennis.

Crystal read Government and Economics at the London School of Economics, and then completed her Master's degree in Education at the University of Cambridge. She is passionate about education and the creative arts, and worked on improving students' happiness in schools via architecture and design through her research. Crystal is an avid foodie and traveller, and enjoys writing and performing music in her spare time.

Xiao Wei read Economics and East Asian Studies at Brown University, with a particular interest in East Asian media and cultural production. Having volunteered at Outward Bound Malaysia for 5 months, she is a firm believer of outdoor education – the outdoors as a medium for self-discovery and experiential learning. She also enjoys reading, backpacking and a good cup of coffee.

Vee Lee studied Petroleum Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. He is passionate about the energy industry, data science and how these two areas overlap. In his free time, he enjoys playing chess, strategy-based board games and watching F1.
