These are the frequently asked questions (FAQ) that we have received in the past. This section should provide answers to some of the questions you might have.
1. How many workshops are there?
There will be a total of three workshops, all held on a Saturday.
2. Is this programme only for those interested in the corporate sector?
Not at all. While many of our mentors are from the corporate sector, they are also deeply involved in leadership roles in their community. The YLA programme aims to develop future leaders of Malaysia across all fields and sectors. We recognise that there are many ways to create positive change and are committed to helping you work toward achieving your leadership vision, whatever that may be.
3. Do I qualify?
YLA is a diverse and select group of up to 50 of the most talented and driven undergraduate students currently studying at a university in Malaysia. We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated strong leadership potential, personal drive, and a passion and energy for making a difference in our community and country. It does not matter what field you are currently studying (law, engineering, accounting, interior design, etc) as we are interested in your leadership potential, strong sense of achievement, and track record of wanting to be a leader and making a change.
4. Is there a minimum academic criteria I need to meet?
YLA participants will be selected based on a combination of their personal achievements, leadership experiences, and communication skills in addition to their academic track record.
5. What is the application and screening process like?
The first step is filling up an application, and you can do it right now! Successful applicants will be invited to attend an interview - either in person, via video, or over the phone.
6. What are some tips for writing a good essay?
The essay is a way for us to understand you better as a person and discover your leadership potential. Be honest and use the essay as a way to tell us about yourself. Also, be sure to check for spelling and grammatical errors.
7. How much time am I expected to devote to the programme?
This programme comprises three one-day workshops, coaching sessions, and working together with your team to develop and implement your social venture idea. To maximise your experience, we would suggest you that you are fully committed to all 3 workshops which will be held on a Saturday. Throughout the 12 weeks, to fully immerse yourself in the programme, we would suggest you allocate around 2-3 hours a week towards realising the success of your project. The more time spent on developing your project and speaking to your McKinsey coach, the more you will be able to fully benefit from the program. As the saying goes - practice makes perfect!
8. What is the fee for the programme?
There is no fee for this programme.
